If you crossed an actual fairy with a California canyon ‘It Girl’ you’d get Alexis Smart, the maker of Alexis Smart Flower Remedies. We’ve watched as this mindful beauty’s remedies have exploded onto the wellness scene over the years, each thoughtfully crafted bottle a reflection of Smart’s modern take on homeopathy.

A practicing homeopath who’s studied with mentors in the direct lineage of Dr. Bach and continues to study under world-renowned homeopath George Vithoulkas in Greece, Alexis has introduced most of her clients to flower remedies for the very first time. If you’re lucky enough to book a personal appointment with Alexis, she may be able to help you uncover your homeopathic constitution, otherwise her flower remedies are widely available and each speaks to a specific challenge.

There are remedies for empaths, stressful conditions, indecision, confidence and dealing with grief, among others. Personally, I have always found them surprisingly effective (and I’ll say more in an upcoming story on emotional health tools!).

As you may imagine of someone who offers such unorthodox gifts to the world, Alexis is highly creative with well-honed taste and wellness medicine cabinet you’d dream for. We asked her to join our My Favorites series and she didn’t disappoint…

My Favorite Things with Alexis Smart of Alexis Smart Flower Remedies

Fave Pressed Juicery product: Apple Pineapple Lemon Juice!
Recent wellness obsession: I know, I know, I am late to the party, but celery juice every morning.
Weird wellness habit that works: Flower remedies (and this is not just because I make them! Once you try them, all other wellness habits pale).
Fave product/ritual for my emotional health: Beauty Formula No.9, my new flower formula for calming summer redness and keeping me emotionally chill.
For fitness/movement, I: Swim in the Aegean and go ballet class if I have my druthers. Currently doing home yoga and pilates.
Fave reading/podcasts: I recently started re-reading all of my favorite authors (Nabokov, Kazantzakis, Paul Bowles, Hemingway). It’s amazing how you get something totally different when you read the same books years later. I am not big on podcasts but I do listen to Russel Brand and I’m currently listening to an Audible by Dani Shapiro on writing (recommended by my writer friend Annabel, to inspire me to put pen to paper).

Clean Beauty
Favorite clean skincare products: Beauty Formula No. 8 by Alexis Smart Flower Remedies, Moon Juice Plump Jelly, Noto Botanics face oil, Marie Veronique Retinol, Wonder Valley Body Scrub, CAP Serotoner.
For the hair: Sándor, Agent Nateur hair oil.
Clean makeup staples: Westman Atelier Lit Up in Lit and Super Loaded in Peau de Peche, RMS UnCoverup, Hourglass vegan brushes.
Skin tool or mask: Gua sha and accompanying book Gua Sha and Crystal Massage by Julie Civiello Polier (her face mapping is amazing too).
Spa/beauty treatment of choice: Love a body scrub at the Korean hot springs in L.A., infrared sauna.
Perfume: BODHA Plants.

Food + Drink
Fridge staples: Farmers’ market seasonal veggies (fennel and radishes on repeat right now), Irish butter, Greek feta cheese, Kalamata olives, tahini.
Functional beverage of choice: I have to have my English tea (Yorkshire Gold) with half and half and honey twice a day and this keeps me functional, haha. Wellness wise, I am doing a Medical Medium-inspired smoothie with coconut water, wild blueberries, dates, and hemp protein.
Fave condiment: Is olive oil a condiment? I practically drink Greek olive oil (I love Oracle Greek olive oil). If not, then Ranch Gordo chipotle hot sauce.
Snack always on hand: Macadamia nuts and dates.
Favorite cocktail: Tequila with lime juice, honey, soda.
Recipe in rotation lately: Heirloom beans from Rancho Gordo with side of greens. Lately I am obsessed with pinto beans. Here’s my recipe:
1. Soak pintos overnight in spring water.
2. Drain and rinse. Add to a big pot and cover with spring water by about six inches.
3. Add one onion quartered, five whole cloves of garlic, a palmful of cumin seeds and I love a dried chili like guajillo.
4. Bring to a boil and boil on high for 15 min. Turn down to simmer for a few hours until soft.
5. Salt at the end with Celtic sea salt. Crumble some Greek feta over them with some steamed chard and olive oil. Yum!

Home
Favorite recent purchase: Devol brass kitchen faucet.
Favorite source of inspo lately: Book: Inside Tangier; IG: My Life In Color, Alexandra Tolstoy, Mariah O’Brien Interiors, Laura Kirar.
Candle/incense etc.: La Feu De L’eau candle in Fleur and BODHA incense in Ground.
Kitchen item I love: Breville Juice Fountain Cold.
Cozy detail of choice: I have slate blue velvet curtains, rather than doors, in my bedroom. When I close them I feel like I’m in a sleeping compartment on the Orient Express.

Closet
Uniform lately: For the desert: linen dress, Greek sandals and my Aegean Blue Flower Sac (my recent collab with Agnes Baddoo). In the city: men’s cotton button down shirt, Levi’s, blazer, brown Christy Dawn Chelsea boots.
Sustainable brands I love: Sugar Candy Mountain for said linen dresses, Agnes Baddoo bags, AWAVEAWAKE, and I love what Christy Dawn is doing with regenerative farming.
Never without: My Victorian Egyptian scarab poison ring (Don’t worry, there’s no poison in it! But I have been thinking of putting a few doses of homeopathic arnica in there for emergencies) and Beatrice Valenzuela shell necklace.
Loungewear of choice: I love a long white Indian tunic in summer. In winter: cashmere sweaters over my pajamas. It’s an eccentric English look.
